Refinement of listening comprehension skills and spoken fluency, with emphasis on language use in both classroom settings and non-academic settings. Practice making oral presentations and participating in panel discussions.

Understanding English Pronunciation
02 credit hours
An overview of the English sound system, with emphasis on understanding meaningful distinctions in rhythm, stress, and reductions. In-class practice of listening and speaking skills.

High-intermediate Grammar
04 credit hours
A comprehensive review of major grammatical structures with emphasis on persistent problem areas and fine distinctions in meaning. Grammar typical of academic English is analyzed, practiced and applied. Self-editing skills are reinforced.

Advanced Grammar
04 credit hours
Coverage of advanced grammatical structures. Special attention to grammatical choices required in written discourse: noun complements, complex passives and raised structures, and fronted structures.

Advanced Integrated Skills
12 credit hours
Advanced integrated practice of listening, speaking, reading and writing in academic contexts simulating a university academic classroom. Concurrent focus on critical reading skills, paraphrase, summary and synthesis in writing, development of spoken fluency and oral presentation skills.
